How to Prepare for your Home Inventory – What to Expect
Call for a free estimate
Once you contact CDA with a general idea of your inventory needs, we will schedule an appointment to discuss what you would like inventoried, and, in most cases, visit your home or business to give you a more accurate price quote. You must be present during the walk-through and inventory.
Pre-inventory visit
During your pre-inventory walk-through, we will ask you to show us all of the items you wish to include in your inventory. This gives us an opportunity to ask questions and understand your inventory needs. The walk-through will also provide us with a better feel for your home or business assets, the level of detail required, and the estimated time needed. Following the walk-through, we’ll review our service options and payment terms with you.
Schedule your inventory appointment
Within one week of the walk-through, we will provide you with a cost estimate, and email you a contract. Upon receipt of a signed contract, we will schedule your inventory and provide a pre-inventory checklist that will help with an efficient and successful inventory. On the day of your inventory, we will collect a 50% deposit with the balance due upon delivery of the finished product.
Your inventory
The inventory is performed by going room-to-room with you, photographing and recording your assets in detail – including serial numbers, descriptions, room location, etc. We require you to be present during the inventory process, and give you the option to list any values (based on appraisal or receipts) or warranty information for any item. We will also create a video of each room in your home. Once the interior inventory has been completed, we will videotape the exterior. If it is part of your scheduled inventory, we will complete an inventory of your garage, shed or studio. Please be sure to include any equipment or vehicles.
Your personalized inventory portfolio
Once the on-site inventory is complete, we will upload the data, photos, and video, and complete your record. We will create a unique inventory file containing a description and digital photo of each item as well as your video. We will also load a backup copy of all your inventory data on a convenient and portable USB flash drive.
You will receive a password-protected, secure email containing a PDF of your complete inventory and photos. If you would like to make any changes, please email us within two weeks. At that time we will send you a USB thumb drive containing a backup copy of your final PDF inventory, a complete set of digital photographs, and your video along with an invoice for the balance due payable upon receipt.
We recommend that you store the flash drive we provide with your inventory in a secure location away from your home. We also offer safekeeping of an additional digital backup of your information in a secure, fireproof location in our office for a small annual fee. We can provide this to you, an insurance company, or attorney if needed in an emergency.
If you would like a printed copy of your inventory, we will be happy to provide one for an additional charge.
